When instant print services first started, people loved the idea of taking keepsake memento home from an event and were satisfied with what was available. Now, it isn’t enough to simply deliver the mementos to people; the industry has evolved to include new and creative perks to create a better wedding experience with photo booths.

In this article, we will explore 4 ways to differentiate and choose between photo booths service providers. 

 

No.1 Design, Design, Design

The design which is superimposed onto an instant print is commonly referred to as a watermark or photo border. During the infant stage of instant print photography, watermarks were usually either a simple logo or a small strip across the bottom of the photo with simple elements.

Today, instant print service providers are providing extremely attractive and beautiful designs, which have elevated the design aspect to be one of the key factors when selecting a service provider.

Service providers remain divided on the customisation of the photo watermark, with some deciding that instant printing and photography remain as the backbone of their business, while others put tremendous effort into beautifying their instant print product.

Regardless of their business’ philosophy, consumers maintain the upper hand as they have a wide variety of choices in a buyer’s market. 

There are generally 3 types of customisation in the industry at the moment: simple watermark, customised watermark and multi-shot layout.

Going back to basics, a simple strip watermark or a logo at the corner provides a minimal level of customisation. The perks of having a simple watermark is having maximum print space to feature your guests, and directing the attention to the people in the photo. 

Minimalist watermarks are especially beneficial for card-sized or 2R prints, as the photos are fairly small to begin with. As people appear very small on card-sized prints, there is a growing trend for 4R sized prints.

 b. Customised Watermark

Customised watermarks allow clients the freedom of creativity, as well as the opportunity to broadcast their beautiful pre-wedding photos. Clients are able to submit their own design, or request for their service providers to create an unique design.

Of late, many service providers are incorporating pre-wedding photos (for weddings) or company logos (for corporate events) into the watermark design. While this is visually appealing, it reduces the available print space featuring your guests. 

c. Multi-shot Layout 

A multi-shot layout allows a few photos to be printed onto a single print. This allows your guests to take multiple shots for a single print, with the drawback of having an even smaller available print space to feature your guests.

This is also a great way to reduce your guests’ waiting time for collecting the prints, especially if the service provider does not utilise a high speed printer.

Many photo booth service providers boast a “high-speed printer”. Since speed is subjective, what exactly is considered “high-speed”? Is 40 seconds considered high-speed? Or does 20 seconds qualify as being high-speed? 

It really depends on the type of printers that are being used. This, being a technical subject, requires you to clarify with your photo booth service provider as all printers probably looks the same to you 🙂

The reason you want printers who can print out instant prints faster is because there are probably a lot of people waiting in line to get their pictures taken. The faster the photo booths can function, the better the mood of your guests would be.

The word “unlimited” sounds all sexy and all cost effective. But based on our wedding experience, most wedding events (and by most i mean 8-9 times out of 10) falls between a predictable usage of prints.

Therefore, most established photo booth service providers knows how the amount of prints to include in their standard package. Do check and compare between providers to see what you can get. Do also ask them if the amount of prints is adequate for the number of pax and their experience will prove valuable to you.

Lastly, there is almost an effortless way to add additional amount of prints at a small cost in case you exceed the amount of prints.  

No. 4 Price

Without a doubt, price is one of the most important factor in deciding the right photo booth vendor for your wedding. Although photo booth isn’t the top few priority in terms of cost, every couple that I know wants value for their money.

The price ranges from the the low-cost basic setups to the expensive and all glamour setup. In most case, the more customisation and “wow” factors you have, the more you pay.

A Guide To Your Magical Moment

Getting married in Singapore is no joking matter. I’m serious! Any fool can tell you that since a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime matter (well, for most at least!), most ladies would want to have a magical experience. That puts a lot of stress on both parties (and their pockets!). Well, fret not! Having been involved in over 500 weddings – as being both parts of the entourage and a service provider, and participated in several wedding shows, BusybodySG is proud to present our inaugural Wedding Guide! For your reference, this guide is based on Amara Hotel’s Magical Moments Wedding Show which was held on 21 February 2016.

If you’re still reading this, I suppose that the proposal has already been successfully concluded. Well, congratulations! Popping the big question is but the first to many, many aspects to take care of. Being a rational person, I’ll err on the side of assuming that you have already made some plans on housing, which I will skip. Let’s take a look at the big-ticket items, which include:

  • Wedding Venue & Food
  • Venue Decor
  • Pre-Wedding photography package, which is commonly bundled with
  • Wedding Outfit (through a bridal shop)
  • Pre-Wedding Cinematography (for those who have the extra moolah to splash)
  • Actual Day Videography

While the small ticket items commonly include:

  • Wedding dowry (for Chinese weddings)

In today’s modern context, I will boldly say that none of the items above are compulsory to get married. After all, what you need are two willing hearts (+ an unconventional approach) and you are ready to get married in your living room. Singaporean couple Larry & Sin Nee got married in their own HDB flat in 2012! While they did hold a wedding at Goodwood Park (not for $900), a wedding solemnization is what you require to be legally wedded under Singapore law! Since not all Singaporeans are hippies, let’s look at how a mainstream wedding goes.

Wedding / Solemnization Venue

The first big-ticket item which most couples attend to would be the wedding venue! In order to shortlist your ideal venue, you will need to have a good idea of either your guest list or your budget. The price (including food) is typically in the range of $588 to $2080++ per table (for conventional seating of 10 pax/table). This is not inclusive of alcoholic beverages, and customized decor.

If you are having your Wedding solemnization on the same day, which is becoming common these days, you have several options to choose from. You can either have it within your ballroom (boring, really) or at a different location within the same venue. Most hotels will provide a function room at no additional cost for this purpose; however, if you are looking at having something ‘different’, an outdoor setting might be enthralling. Or it might be a sweaty experience altogether, depending on the day’s weather and the timing that you have your solemnization at.

Wedding Decor

Decorating the venue can range from being simple to a relatively extensive project. For starters, most venues provide a list of settings for you to choose from. Enlist the help of your bridesmaids and you can have ‘something different’ easily. Due to popular demand, we are sharing more trade secrets with you in this post! Read on to find out more about how BusybodySG maintains our high service standards and customer satisfaction!

 Customer Service

So, after finding out more through our highly informative Guide to Choosing an Instant Print Service Provider, you are considering to engage BusybodySG as your Instant Print Service Provider! Hooray! Throughout your email correspondence with BusybodySG, you might have noticed that BusybodySG is extremely responsive over emails (average response time: ¼ working day or less!). That’s because BusybodySG is a fully-staffed service provider, with a dedicated and friendly representative to attend to your queries! We are also happy to arrange for weekday meetings (anytime between 10 am-8 pm), which is only possible due to our commitment to our customer’s satisfaction!

Although consumers are spoilt for choice today in Singapore’s Instant Print service industry, many service providers are committed to a  day job and operate their Instant Print service only on weekends. This may compromise on the overall experience as they may take days to respond to your emails and be unable to entertain your questions during office hours. In addition, it might also be difficult to arrange for the service provider to make a site visit to your Wedding venue to ensure that the venue has space/logistics to support their service. Being in operations for 5 years, BusybodySG has been to almost every Wedding location. Heck, we might even know your Banquet Manager by name!

Live Walk-through

Due to the nature of our work, we are unfortunately unable to conduct meetings over the weekends as we will be on-site entertaining our wedding couples’ guests. BUT, this also means (subject to our wedding couple’s approval) that we are able to host you on-site for a live walk-through on our services! We can’t think of a better way for you to find out more about our service but to experience it yourself!

What’s Next?

So, after going through “The Busybody Experience” first-hand, your boss (sorry guys!) has decided to engage BusybodySG. The first question is usually “What’s next?”. To confirm your booking, we require you to sign a painless contract agreement (void of technical jargon) and to place a S$200 reservation deposit to seal the deal. We have now reserved our service for your big day. We will embark on the design process to craft our beautiful signature design on your instant prints. The turn-around is 12 working days, though we usually take less time than that! Our designs are created from scratch and customized to your satisfaction!

We understand that at the time of the booking, you might not have completed your ‘Pre-Wedding’ photography, and hence may not have your beautiful photos ready. Not to worry, you can send us your photos whenever convenient and we will start on the design process! Most bridal studios will release your photos at least a month prior to your wedding, which leaves us ample time for the design and multiple revisions.

And… What comes after?

You love your design! What’s next, what’s next, you ask? After approving and confirming your photo’s design overlay, there isn’t much left to do but to wait for your wedding!

A week prior to your wedding, you will receive an email from us, informing you of our Busybody crew’s contact information, as well as our estimated time of arrival. Our protocol is to arrive at your venue approximately an hour prior to your service timing for set-up. Punctuality is something we value greatly, hence we are always ready before your service time!

What to Expect

Upon arriving on-site, our Busybody crew will contact your appointed liaison. As wedding couples tend to be occupied on their big day, it is our practice to request for an alternate point of contact, preferably someone from your entourage. After establishing contact, we will commence the set-up, which takes between 5-45 minutes depending on the service you engaged in. As your entourage will likely be busy assisting you with their wedding duties, we are happy to entertain them once our service is ready. The rest of your guests may have to wait till the official start 😉

Don’t be surprised if our Busybody liaison checks in to ask if everything is going well, as we are more than happy to help if we are able to! Throughout our service, feel free to approach our friendly crew members should you have any additional requests.

Among one of the popular questions asked is – “How many photos are we entitled to?” We are not bluffing when we say that our packages include “unlimited prints”. During our engaged timing, we will capture as many photos as we can, and print according to the number of guests in the photo. With your permission, we will even point a (fake) knife at your guests to ‘persuade’ them to take more photos =P

As a conservative estimate (largely dependent on the number of invited guests), over a 2hr engagement, we usually capture between 60-120 photos for our Photo Booth or Red Carpet service and 40-80 photos for our Roving service. Our Photo Booth and Red Carpet service usually yield more photos (compared to Roving) as the photo-taking area is fixed and comes with fun props to pose with.

At the end of our service, all captured photos will be handed over to your appointed liaison on our nifty Busybody flash drive!
